What you should know.

Which parrot species is LoroBot suitable for?+

LoroBot is being developed for medium and large parrot species that commonly use a perch. The exact range of suitable species and sizes is being verified during prototype testing, and final specifications are not yet confirmed.

Does the bird need to be trained to use the perch?+

Most parrots naturally use a perch. If the bird is not familiar with one, a gradual habituation period is appropriate, as with any new cage equipment. The deployment method is being tested as part of the prototype.

How are the perch and unit mounted?+

The wooden perch is placed inside the cage, the main unit with electronics outside. The specific mounting method and compatibility with cage types are subject to development and may change.

Is there any electronics inside the cage?+

No. Only the wooden perch is inside the cage. All electronics, battery and connectivity are placed outside the cage, out of the bird’s reach.

Does LoroBot work without a phone?+

The device is designed to record data on its own. A phone app is used to display trends and notifications. Details of offline behavior are being verified during prototype testing.

What if I have two or more parrots? Can LoroBot tell them apart?+

LoroBot distinguishes parrots by weight. It gradually builds a long-term weight profile for each bird and assigns new readings to the matching profile. This works reliably for birds whose weights differ from one another. For two birds of the same species with the same weight, weight-based distinction has its limits.

What if parrots sit on the perch together, swing or hold on to the cage bars?+

The system is designed to use only readings where a single bird sits calmly on the perch and the weight is stable. The algorithm recognizes and excludes moments when two birds sit there at once, play around or partly hold on to the bars. A few calm landings a day are enough to track weight trends, which is still far more data than weighing a parrot only occasionally at the vet.

Will droppings and dirt on the perch affect the measurement?+

No. The perch automatically zeros itself when it is empty, similar to taring a bowl on a kitchen scale. Gradual soiling therefore does not affect the measured weight of the parrot. Regular perch cleaning remains important for hygiene, not for weighing accuracy.

Does LoroBot also work outside the cage?+

Yes. The perch can be placed in the cage, in an aviary or outside them, for example on a stand or in a favorite spot where the parrot likes to perch. A calm landing by one bird outside the cage is an ideal measurement situation.

When will LoroBot launch and how much will it cost?+
